06 - September Update

Heya yall, hope everyone is doing well with their summer’s ending and their schools starting up again.

Firstly, I’ve got another game to promote: Dimi Dawdle. I worked on this game solo for the 2024 GMTK Game Jam. I worked so hard on it within the 96 hour time frame, please do check it out. I’ll likely be adding more updates to it in the future but don’t expect updates to come fast for it. Regardless, please do check out what’s out right now as that was everything I was able to do for it, my goodness I was so tired when I finished–

Anyways, I’ve got another update so let’s start. :D

So, in regards to the programming side, compared to the rest of the videos, this one is likely the shortest one. Aside from the fact that I was working on another game, I’ve mainly been focusing a lot on artwork as of late. Still, that doesn’t mean I don’t have any code stuff to show off so here we go:

0:00 - ___ - Inventory Demo

  • Showing off the inventory system.

1:12 - ___ - New Logo Testing

  • Still needs work but i like it
  • I worry about this causing epilepsy so I’ve set it to 1 frame every 3 seconds for now yet I preferably would like it if it was 1 second per each frame.
  • Will be getting feedback on it soon

1:37 - ___ - New Logo + Better Cam + Interaction Types + Item Showcase

  • A lot to go through here so lets go down the line:
  • 1:37 - New Logo
    • Updated the logo so its the orange/white version alongside adjusting the main title text.
    • I’ve also gotten some feedback and I’m going to keep the speed at this current speed, 1 frame per second. I’ll likely add in an option so stuff like that is slowed down even further in case it does bother anyone.
    • Still need to adjust some other stuff such as fixing the pixel alignment for the options and changing some colors but yea, will adjust by next update.
  • 1:55 - Better Camera
    • Prior I had the ability to toggle the camera positioning (toggling it above or below the player) and I’m gonna just make it an actual feature, need to make sprites of Costel/Rianne looking up and down though.
    • Speaking of controls, I’ve added controller support. Its basically impossible to screen record that but know that I still need to add the ability to change the controls.
  • 2:05 - Interaction Types
    • Just showing off some more stuff I can do with the interactions.
    • I’ve also did a basic fix to being able to interact so there’s no longer the issue on interacting with 2 or more objects. I do still wanna adjust stuff later but this works for what it is right now.
  • 5:20 - Item Showcase
    • Some of the sprites I’ve managed to complete so far plus some quick descriptions, note that not everything here is final.
    • There was some more stuff I wanted to show off with the item interactions but right now some of it is kinda bugged right now. I’ll leave that till later on to show.

With how much left needs to be programmed in, notably the Save Files and the Documents menus need to be worked on. As of writing (9/5/2024), I have not started on either of these. Regardless, these are the 2 primary things that need to be coded in until I could actually start coding in stuff for the main game. There are some other things such as cutscene implementation and the options menus, but those are the 2 main things that need to be done.

I wanted to honestly go in-depth with the process on making the cover art (the old one included) but I wanted to get this update out as soon as possible since classes are starting. If I have enough time in the next update, I’ll do exactly that and give more focus to it.

With school starting up by the way, I will have less time to work on everything in general so production will slow down drastically. …I mean unless I were to get the chance to work on this game as a class assignment then– Seriously though, expect less and less updates come each following month. I promise to at least try to get in one update by the end of the year. Regardless, I hope this update will satisfy. Take care everyone and good luck with your classes.
